San Fernando Hills

Relax in South

Little History about the hills.

San Fernando Hill officially known as Naparima Hill is a 192-m hill which lies at the centre of the city of San Fernando in Trinidad and Tobago. The hill, an outcrop of Argillite is the highest point in the Naparima Plains. Originally nearly dome-shaped with a flattened top, the size was reduced by more than a third as a result of unrestricted quarrying in the 1970s. The Hill originally supported semi-evergreen forest, but this was largely replaced by cultivated species prior to the devastation of the Hill by quarrying.

What the hill  has to offer :
 Breathtaking view ,perfect for relaxation
Picnic Areas
Play Parks
Wonderful Scenery for picture takings
Can be rented to host parties, weddings and other events

Perfect place to kick back and relax...

Mount Saint Benedict

One of Ideal Island Tours Favorite Place

Mount Saint Benedict history dates way back to 1912, where it was founded by Benedictine Monks, whose aspirations were to evangelize many of the nation’s Hindu population. However today the monastery serves many more functions than it previously did, there is: a Catholic Church, a seminary, a drug rehabilitation centre, a yogurt factory and the Pax Guest House.  Yes! it’s definitely a sight worth seeing, weather you  need to offer your prays, seek peace, solace, purpose and fulfilment or just gaze in amazement of the elevated view of Trinidad’s northern range, Mount St Benedict is the ideal spot.  Ideal island tours can facilitate bookings at the Pax Guest House on your behalf as required.

Call us to see the amazing place and breathtaking view.

Hiking Tips

 Essentials When Hiking

  1. Water - Two litres per person is recommended for your daily trip. Keep in mind that the tropical climate is hot and with excess perspiration you want to stay well hydrated.
  2. Map - Know where you are and where you are going.
  3. Tour Guide - Many of our hiking areas feature interconnecting network of trails so ensure that your tour guide is within visible or at least audible range at all times.
  4. Food - walking and climbing will burn energy.  If you did not select an all inclusive tour,  be sure to walk with savoury (Salt) snacks to keep cramps away and sugary snacks or drinks for energy.  Don’t forget lunch as we may most likely will be  far away from and food vendors.
  5. Rain Gear and Extra Clothing – In tropics rain happens just about any time of year. Be prepared for changing weather. Avoid cotton--it traps water against your skin and is slow to dry.
  6. Compass - A simple compass is all you need to orient you and your map to magnetic north.
  7. Light - A flashlight or small lightweight headlamp will be welcome gear if you find yourself still on the trail when darkness falls. Check the batteries before you start out and have extras in your pack.
  8. First Aid Kit - Keep it simple, compact, and weatherproof. Know how to use the basic components.
  9. Firestarter and Matches - In an emergency, you may need to keep yourself or someone else warm until help arrives.
  10. Knife or Multi-tool - You may need to repair a piece of broken equipment, or solve some other unexpected problem.
  11. Common Sense - Pay attention to your environment, your energy, and the condition of your companions and most importantly the tour guide. Has the weather turned rainy? Is daylight fading? Did you drink all your water? Did your companion fail to bring rain gear? Are you getting tired? Keep in mind that until you turn around you are (typically) only half-way to completing your hike--you must still get back to where you started from! (unless it’s a loop hike.)
