Have you ever felt that you were standing on
the edge of the world? That’s the feeling
you get when you visit the Toco Lighthouse. It’s located at Galera point, which
happens to be the most north-easterly village of Trinidad and is also the
closest point to our sister isle Tobago. The light house itself is a spectacular
monument to our history and has stood strong for almost 150 years, guiding so
many of sea dwellers to safety. Also the compound which the light house is
based has and ambient settings with chairs and tables shaded by beautiful
almond trees, which caters for family picnics and excursions. However for the
adventure seekers, who may be willing to go beyond the confines of the safety
railing. There is a short track that leads to a rock platform and shared cliff
that overlooks the point which the Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea meet. The
vast never ending horizon of wide open water is breath taking. Truly a
magnificent experience and a site definitely worth seeing” ‘just be
careful”.
